Pressure Vessel CE Certificate

Pressure vessel CE Certificate is a CE Certificate issued for pressure equipment with a maximum pressure greater than 0.5 bar. Manufacturers who receive this certificate declare that these equipment meet basic health and safety requirements. For this, after the production of the product is completed, the relevant requirements are verified by the manufacturer itself or by a notified body and the pressure vessel CE Certificate can be issued. Pressure equipment manufacturers who receive this certificate can quickly introduce their products to the European Union (EU) market. The pressure vessel CE Certificate is not a quality certificate, but shows that the product meets certain criteria related to health and safety, as in other CE markings.

What is Pressure Vessel CE Certificate? What is the Pressure Vessels Regulation?

There are different EU regulations that apply to pressure vessels / equipment. The regulations published by the European Commission (EC) and adopted by harmonizing in our country are as follows:

  • 2014/29/EU Simple Pressure Vessels Directive (SPVD) - It was adopted in our country with a regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 29877 in 2016.

  • 2014/68/EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) - It was adopted in our country with a regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 30349 in 2018.

  • 75/324/EC Aerosol Distributors Directive (ADD) - It was adopted in our country with the "Aerosol Containers Regulation" published in the Official Gazette No. 24246 in 2000.

  •  2010/35/EC Portable Pressure Equipment Directive (TPED) - It was adopted in our country with a regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 28514 in 2012.

As can be seen, although a general expression is used as a pressure vessel CE Certificate, different regulations may be required for pressure vessels and equipment. For this reason, before the CE certification process is started, it should be determined which regulation the product falls under and the studies required by that regulation should be planned.

Pressure vessel CE Certificate, with closed volume and with design pressure and volume within certain limits;

  • tanks,
  • boilers,
  •  piping systems,
  •  compressors,
  •  hyhores,
  •  valves
  • heat exchangers etc.)

applies to The CE Certificate for pressure equipment covers the following products:

  •  Pressure pipes
  • Safety accessories
  • Nozzles
  •  Lifting handles
  •  Flanges
  •  Couplings

Design parameters such as the material (steel, aluminum, etc.), material wall thickness, joining method (welding, etc.), operating temperature of the pressure vessels are directly related to the scope of the CE Certificate. For example, containers for nuclear purposes, containers used for the operation or localization of ships and aircraft, and fire extinguishers are excluded this regulation (2014/29/EU).

How to Get Pressure Vessel CE Certificate?

When it is desired to obtain a CE Certificate for pressure vessels, it must first be determined which regulation falls within the scope of this vessel. If an evaluation and certification is to be made within the scope of the 2014/29/EU regulation, the steps to be followed are as follows:

  • First of all, it is determined whether there is a need for a notified body. If the "pressure (bar) X volume (liter)" value of the pressure vessel for which the CE Certificate will be obtained is below a certain value, the manufacturer can perform its own verification without the need for a notified body. However, a notified body is mostly needed and a certification plan is created within the scope of the module determined based on the pressure and volume values.
  •  There are modules A2, B (production and design type), C2, D, D1, E, E1, F, G, H, H1 for which the notified body is responsible according to the pressure vessels regulation. These modules differ according to the processes to be carried out on issues such as design, production, quality assurance, product verification, etc.
  •  The manufacturer applies for the pressure vessel CE Certificate after verifying the accuracy of the product with various tests and analyzes. While applying, the technical file, which is the most important part of the CE certification process, is presented as well as some documents belonging to the enterprise. In the technical file;

o product introduction, module information, category and class

o design and production information of the pressure vessel,

o test, calculation and analysis reports,

user manual of that product,

o maintenance and assembly instructions,

o EC declaration of conformity,

the standards used

o risk analysis

information should be included.

  • The certification body may want to visit the production facilities after examining the application and the submitted documents. After this audit step, if no non-compliance is detected, the CE certification process is completed.

Pressure Vessel CE Certificate Benefits

Pressure vessels are used in many different sectors and can pose great risks to human health and safety because they operate under high pressure. Therefore, it should be verified that these products pass certain safety tests and are produced according to the relevant standards.is. Pressure vessels CE Certificate is one of the most important studies in this context. A pressure vessel manufacturer that obtains a CE Certificate for its products also confirms the safety of its products. In addition, it can offer its certified products to different markets, especially in Europe. Thanks to the CE Certificate, it can gain the trust of its customers and differentiate itself in the market and get ahead of its competitors.
