Machine CE Certificate

Machine CE Certificate

Machinery CE Certificate is the CE Certificate issued for machinery and machinery equipment that fall into certain categories. As with other CE documents, the Machine CE Certificate can be issued by the notified bodies or by the manufacturer if the relevant requirements are met. Products bearing the Machine CE Certificate inform consumers and other stakeholders in the market that certain health and safety criteria are met. Certified products can circulate freely in the European market. In our country, there is a harmonized version of the Machinery Regulation, in which the scope of this CE Certificate is drawn and its requirements are determined. When machine manufacturers want to obtain CE Certificate, they have to comply with this regulation and act in accordance with the regulations.

What is Machine CE Certificate? What is Machinery Regulation?

The machinery industry is an important part of the engineering industry and is one of the most important pillars of the community economy. For this reason, certain rules and principles should be developed for the correct, safe and healthy use of these machines. The social and economic cost of accidents directly caused by machine use can be reduced by the safe design and manufacture of machines and proper installation and maintenance procedures. We can say that safer machines make a significant contribution to reducing the social cost of accidents and health damage both at work and at home. Machine CE Certificate is also a document issued for this purpose and is of vital importance for many engineering industries.
Machine CE Certificate is given within the framework of the 2006/42/EC Directive put into effect by the European Commission. This directive describes the basic health and safety requirements that machinery and equipment must meet in order for the manufacturer to affix the CE mark. We see that this directive is implemented in our country with the "Machine Safety Regulation" published in the Official Gazette No. 27158 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2009. This regulation covers the procedures and principles necessary for the production, installation, operation and maintenance of machines in a way that will not endanger human and animal health and safety; It also explains the activities that manufacturers and notified bodies must perform in order to give CE Certificate to these machines.
According to the 2006/42/EC Directive, the product or product groups to be granted CE Certificate are as follows:

• Machines
• Partially completed machines
• Chains, ropes and straps
• Safety components
• Replaceable equipment
• Detachable mechanical transfer devices
• Lifting accessories
Although this regulation is quite comprehensive, it still does not apply to some machinery and machine elements. Some of the machines that are not covered by the regulation are:
• Machines used in fairs and entertainment centers
• Weapons
• Motor vehicles used only in races
• Machines specially designed and produced for police and military purposes.
• Elevators used in mine shafts
• Some means of transportation
• Machines used for nuclear purposes, radioactive equipment

How to Get Machine CE Certificate?

We can summarize the steps to be followed in order to obtain the CE Certificate and the important points to be considered as follows:
• First of all, it should be decided whether a notified body is needed for the document. According to Directive 2006/42/EC, a notified body may be required for CE certification of the product and in this case, this body carries out the necessary compliance verifications. In other cases, after making the necessary checks, the machine manufacturers can declare the product´s compliance with the regulation and put the CE mark on the product.
• It should be decided which standards should be applied for the machines for which CE Certificate will be obtained. There are many ISO / EN standards to which the regulation refers. Manufacturers / notified bodies have to follow the requirements mentioned in these standards to confirm that the machines are safe and healthy.
• When notified bodies verify the conformity of the product, they issue a certificate of conformity explaining this. Next, manufacturers issue a Declaration of Conformity to declare compliance with the relevant directive at their sole risk. This declaration includes the manufacturer, details such as name and address, key features to which the product complies, all European standards and performance data, and the notified body´s identification number, as well as legally binding signatures on behalf of the organisation.
• In the next step, a technical file is prepared as in other CE documents. This file contains detailed documents (technical drawings, calculations, etc.), test reports, list of protective measures, user manual, declaration of conformity regarding the design and production of the machine. n copies, referenced standards and technical specifications etc. should be included.
• In cases where the Machine CE Certificate is obtained through notified bodies, on-site inspections can be carried out at the manufacturer´s production facilities and corrective actions may be required for detected nonconformities.

Machine CE Certificate Benefits

CE certificates ensure that a product can be supplied to the European market very easily and quickly. In addition, customers using these products ensure that the product is produced according to certain standards and meets the necessary safety and health criteria, thus increasing the trust in the brand. Machine CE Certificate increases the prestige of manufacturers in the market and increases their competitiveness. Companies that produce products with CE Certificate can also benefit many public and private sector incentives.
