Insulation Resistance Tests

Insulation Resistance Tests

Insulation (Insulation) is the reduction of the energy flow the environment to the outside or the outside to the environment by using any insulation (insulation) material.

There are various types of Insulation (Insulation) materials:

*Thermal insulation materials (insulators) to reduce the heat flow.

*Electrical insulators to prevent the flow of electricity.

Electrical insulation (electrical insulator) is a type of insulation (insulation) made to ensure that electrical energy only passes through the relevant conductor, to prevent short-circuit currents that may occur, and to ensure the safety of living things. For this reason, the parts where the products used in the transmission will come into contact with the environment should be covered with insulating materials.

The Regulation on Electric High Current Facilities lists all the needs required during the establishment of the facilities. Among these conditions, approach distances and life safety issues are also emphasized.

Insulators are materials that do not transmit sound, heat and electric current to the environment. Insulators may vary according to usage areas. The material, which is a good insulator for sound, can easily pass electric current. For this reason, insulators should be ed according to their usage areas.
If we talk about electrical insulator, we can briefly define it as materials that do not conduct electricity. In fact, every material is conductive, but materials have a certain strength limit. So there is an insulating resistance. In the electric current above this limit, the substance behaves like a conductor, that is, it conducts electricity. This situation is checked by testing with appropriate devices.

While calculating the Insulation Resistance, a constant voltage is applied to the system to be measured and the current is measured. This voltage and current ratio gives us the Insulation Resistance.

Monitoring of ungrounded power supplies (IT System) can be done using an isolation monitoring device.

In grounded power supply systems, monitoring can be done indirectly using fault current monitoring. Insulation monitoring devices play an important role in timely planning of maintenance work by detecting possible insulation faults at an early stage.

In contrast, the insulation measurement is only a snapshot of the insulation resistance.

The nature of the electrical installation or equipment

Type of use
In principle, the insulation resistance depends on the above items.
